Bayram is a Turkic and Central Asian word meaning a community festivity. On Saturday, July 19, we invite you to join us in celebrating the music and cultures of the Silk Road regions, the historical route that connected East and West. The 16 th Annual Silk Road Bayram is a showcase of the arts of this famous route traveled since 2000 BC.

Marco Polo was one of the better known historical figures to enjoy the treasures of the peoples living along its course. Today Bloomington, Indiana has become a portal that connects us to the traditions and the fine arts of this ancient route that have contributed very much to our global village.

The schedule of events includes cultural tables, musical performances, dance, fashion show and lectures. Each visual art and performance spotlights important aspects of life along the Silk Road.

Thanks to the generous support of the Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center at Indiana University (IAUNRC ) and the Silk Road Institute, all events are free and open to the public. This educational program is also made possible by the support of numerous Indiana University departments, the community, national and international cultural organizations and businesses.
